1. male, 2. aged 20-64 years, 3. living in Tokyo, 4. workers full-time, day shift, working Monday-Friday, 5. eating lunch habitually, 6. less than 25 points of the Epicurean eating tendencies scale

Excluding 56 individuals who did not meet the eligibility criteria, a baseline survey was conducted with 536 participants, who were then randomly assigned to two groups (intervention group: 360; control group: 176). Participants in the intervention group were asked to take photos of their lunches and report the number of colors included in their lunches for five consecutive days. Surveys were administered to both groups at the end of the intervention and again two weeks later, and an additional follow-up survey was conducted for the intervention group two weeks after that.

This study is not applicable to this item.

In the intervention and control groups, 116 (32.2 %) and 126 (71.6 %) participants were analyzed, respectively. The median baseline was 21.0 for both the intervention and control group, respectively (P = 0.051). After the intervention (post-survey 1), the intervention group scored higher (25.0) than the control group (22.0, P < 0.001). Two weeks later (post-survey 2), the intervention and control groups scored lower (24.0 and 20.0, respectively) than in post-survey 1, but the intervention group maintained higher scores than the baseline (P < 0.001), whereas the control group did not differ significantly from the pre-intervention score (P = 0.089). Scores in the intervention group were maintained after another two weeks (post-survey 3: 24.0, P = 1.000).

The results indicated that counting lunch color for only five days boosted Epicurean eating tendencies, but only among those who completed the task.
